duffourGovernment will later today seek approval for additional 2.6 billion Ghana cedis to spend this year in its supplementary budget. This will add up to the 19 billion Ghana cedis already approved by parliament in the 2012 budget.  A chunk of this spending will be on public sector wages, subsidies on utilities, petroleum products, the elections and some social intervention programs. Sources say the budget will also reveal that government grossed about 13 billion Ghana cedis in revenue and grants for last year.

JOYBUSINESS has also learnt that government has exceeded all its macro-economic targets set out in the 2011 budget. It will also announce some additional inflows that have come from the World Bank and African Development Bank.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour tells JOYBUSINESS will reflect some strides made by government in managing the economy, despite the challenging times.
““We are experiencing a very robust growth of the economy and at the same time going through some challenges…at the same time we make sure we don’t lose control of the economy. If you look at the main data, we are on track, there is no question about that.” he said.

Government will also revise its spending-targets on Gross Domestic Product.
