dollarsChairman of Parliaments Public Accounts Committee has bemoaned the sorry state of accounts keeping and financial recording in public institutions.

Albert Kan Dapaah said poor book keeping costs the nation in excess of 3 billion cedis annually.  He admonished Chartered Accountants to be more instrumental in solving this problem.

Kan Dapaah was speaking at the induction ceremony for 250 newly qualified chartered accountants.

He urged the newly inducted accountants to make themselves available for public service in order to eschew corruption in the public sector.

He said it is not sufficient to say that accountants are shying away from public service because the pay is not good, adding at a time when corruption is endemic in the public system, competent accountants are needed.
