i. Government Securities.
Government securities sold in the primary market in Ghana, all of which can be traded in the secondary market, include the following:-
- 91 day Treasury Bill,- 182 day Treasury Bill,
- 1 year Treasury Note,
- 2 year Treasury Note,
- 3 year Medium Term Bond, and
- 5 year Medium Term Bond
Securities with tenor up to 2 years are issued weekly. However, the 3 and5-year bonds are issued periodically based on the issues calendar by government.
ii. Bank of Ghana Bills
Bank of Ghana issues its own securities in its Open Market Operations (OMO) for market liquidity management.
These include:
- 7 day,
- 14-day, 28-day (1 month) and
- 56-day (2 month),
maturities and others that may be issued in future for OMO purposes. Both issuance and redemptions occurs on Wednesdays.
iii Ghana Cocoa Board
Cocobod bills are issued to support the purchases cocoa during the crop season. These are normally 91-day and 182-day tenor.
All the securities are denominated in the local currency Ghanaian Cedis (GHS).
